INTRODUCTION & INFORMATION

The VBORNET project aims to establish a European Network of medical entomologists and public health specialists in order to support ECDC in its preparedness activities on vector-borne diseases. The members of this network are representatives of a wide range of vector–borne disease-related research and public health activities currently ongoing in Europe. More information about VBORNET can be found on the ECDC website (http://ecdc.europa.eu/en/activities/diseaseprogrammes/Pages/VBORNET.aspx) and the attached leaflet.

Current links between experts on vectors and public health specialists are often poorly established both at national level and in European networks. An important task of VBORNET is to link these experts with the aim to define and develop priority strategic topics concerning the public health perspective of vector-borne diseases and vector surveillance in the EU. The current questionnaire is a first step towards this goal and aims to collect information on vector-borne diseases and related public health activities and expertise in the EU member states.

The survey consists of twelve questions, targeted to the public health experts responsible for national surveillance on vector-borne diseases and / or nationally acknowledged experts in special health issues on vector borne diseases. It covers different topics related to thirteen vector-borne diseases:

THE FUTURE OF VBORNET

Q11:
What service or output would you expect from VBORNET: a European Network of entomologists and public health specialists assisting ECDC in its preparedness activities on vector-borne diseases?

(more information about VBORNET is given in the cover letter and the attached VBORNET leaflet)

Q12:
VBORNET will build a network of entomologists and public health experts on vector-borne diseases. Would you as a public health expert on vector-borne diseases be interested to contribute to VBORNET? What would you be willing to contribute?

(More PH experts per country can join, please give your name and add your specific expertise)

We would be willing to contribute by:
sharing data from our surveillance network
sharing reports from our surveillance network
sharing knowledge
giving trainings
evaluation of surveillance systems of other countries
other ways:
Please provide name and details of public health experts who are interested to contribute to VBORNET:
